GULP emerges from Joanna Leah’s field-based investigation of seven cormorants on Hilbre Island. Through close observation, Leah developed bespoke drawing tools shaped by cormorant wing forms, enabling movement to function as a drawing method. These tools form both sculptural elements and participatory instruments within learning and exhibition contexts. This was exhibited and performed as part of Indy Biennial 2025 as part of the Drawing Out Hilbre BADA project.
The project proposes drawing as a form of ecological and embodied research, where participants learn through sensing, moving, and making collectively. Joanna and Órla are developing this into a full scale workshop, exhibition and participatory performance work.
